Lochs & rivers

Waterfalls & pools

Loch Tay – A Wild Swimmer’s Paradise

📍 Near: Loch Tay Highland Lodges

Nestled in the heart of the Highlands, Loch Tay is one of Scotland’s most iconic wild swimming spots. Surrounded by mountains and rolling greenery, the water is crisp, clear, and invigorating. You’ll find several access points along the loch, and it’s easy to combine a swim with a peaceful paddleboard or a scenic walk.

Top Tip: Bring a robe or dry bag and enjoy a warm drink after your swim while admiring the view of Ben Lawers.

River Earn – Calm and Scenic

📍 Near: Braidhaugh Holiday Park

Running through Crieff, the River Earn is a peaceful spot for wild swimming, especially in summer when the flow is gentler. The riverbanks are fringed with greenery, making it feel like a secret slice of paradise. It’s great for beginners looking for a short, calm swim.

Combine it with: A riverside walk or picnic with local produce from Crieff’s shops.

Campsie Glen Pools – Natural Waterfalls and Plunge Pools

📍 Near: Campsie Glen Holiday Park

Wild swimming doesn’t get more magical than this. The natural pools and waterfalls around Campsie Glen are ideal for a quick cool-down after a woodland walk. They’re also a hit on Instagram thanks to their fairytale setting.

Be careful: The rocks can be slippery—wear water shoes for grip and comfort.

Shell Bay & Elie Chain Walk – Saltwater Swims with Coastal Views

📍 Near: Letham Feus Holiday Park

Prefer sea swimming? Shell Bay is a sheltered beach with calm tides and sandy shores—perfect for a peaceful saltwater dip. Nearby, the Elie Chain Walk adds a bit of adventure for those up for a scramble followed by a splash.

Make a day of it: Pack a beach picnic and watch the sun go down from the shore.

Loch Earn & Loch Lubnaig

Both of these lochs are a short drive from several of our parks and make excellent day trip destinations. They’re surrounded by forest and mountains, with several safe and accessible swim spots.

Local gem: Loch Lubnaig has a car park and facilities, making it beginner-friendly.
