Easy Autumn Walks in Scotland for a Relaxed Day Out

This guide is for families with little legs in tow, couples after a slow morning, retirees taking it at their own pace, and anyone who'd rather finish a walk with a coffee than a kit check. Fancy something bigger instead? Our Best Autumn Hikes in Scotland guide is the one for confident walkers and full-day challenges.

Not every autumn walk needs to eat up your whole afternoon. If you're after easy autumn walks in Scotland — the kind you can do before breakfast, after lunch, or with little legs and a buggy in tow — this is your list. Every route below sits close to one of our parks, runs under two and a half hours, and rewards you with proper autumn colour for very little effort.

Explore any of them offline through the AllTrails app (handy once you're away from a signal), or if you've already got a favourite short loop near one of our parks, you can map and save that as your own route too. For the wider picture of what's out there, VisitScotland's guide to walking trails is a good place to browse beyond this list.

Know Before You Go: Easy Autumn Walking Tips

  • Layer up, even for a short one. Scottish autumn weather turns quickly — a light waterproof folds down small enough to live in any bag.
  • The colour peaks mid-autumn. Late September through October tends to be the sweet spot for the golds and coppers in the woodland walks below.
  • Midges have clocked off. By September they're all but gone, which makes standing about taking photos far more pleasant than in July.
  • Grip matters underfoot. Fallen leaves over stone or root get slippery — decent shoes make even a short glen walk more comfortable.
  • Dogs on leads through farmland. A couple of these routes cross grazing land or run near a golf course, so leads on and gates closed.

The Easy Autumn Walks in Scotland, Park by Park

Here's where to find them, running from Fife across to Perthshire and over to Stirlingshire — a short, proper walk right from wherever you're staying.

Letham Feus Holiday Park, Leven — The Gentlest Walk on the List

Letham Feus Holiday Park sits near Lundin Links, with the Fife coast a short run away.

Letham Glen Circular — Easy, 1.1 miles, 134ft elevation gain, 0.5–1hr, circular. A short, sheltered loop through Letham Glen itself — good for little legs, buggies, or simply a stretch before breakfast. It's over almost as soon as it's begun, which makes it easy to slot into an otherwise lazy day.

If you fancy stretching your legs a little further, Largo Law — the distinctive conical hill visible for miles across the East Neuk — is a well-loved short climb nearby, with a proper view back over the Firth of Forth from the top. Fancy something less strenuous instead? Falkland Palace and Garden, a fine Renaissance palace under an hour away, makes an easy, gentle add-on to the day.

Loch Tay Highland Lodges & Cruachan Farm, Killin — A Gentle Lochside Loop

Loch Tay Highland Lodges and Cruachan Farm are our two sister parks at Killin, a short stroll apart on the shore of Loch Tay — Scotland's sixth-largest loch, and a genuinely calm spot to base a slower few days.

River Lochay and Loch Tay Nature Path — Easy, 3.7 miles, 400ft elevation gain, 1.5–2hrs, circular. A gentle loch and riverside route that takes in the Falls of Dochart on the way — reliably one of the prettiest short walks in this part of Perthshire, and an easy one to do straight from either park.

Braidhaugh Holiday Park, Crieff — Two Easy Options From the Doorstep

Braidhaugh Holiday Park sits on the banks of the River Earn, a short, scenic walk from Crieff itself — and here's a fact we're rather fond of: several of our caravans are actually named after walks around Crieff, so you may well be sleeping in one before you've even set foot on the path.

Crieff and The Hosh Circuit — Moderate, 3.1 miles, 488ft elevation gain, 1.5–2hrs, circular. A neat loop taking in Crieff's edges and the Hosh, leaving plenty of time afterwards for the town's independent shops or a wander round Drummond Castle Gardens.

Knock of Crieff, Laggan Hill, and River Earn Circular — Moderate, 8 miles, 1,368ft elevation gain, 4–4.5hrs, circular. A bigger half-day option if you want a bit more distance, combining hill and riverside walking right from the park's doorstep.

Campsie Glen Holiday Park, Fintry — A Short Walk to a Waterfall

Tucked between the Campsie Hills and the River Endrick in Fintry, Campsie Glen Holiday Park is just under an hour from Glasgow — close enough for a relaxed weekend without a long drive eating into it.

Fintry Wood and Black Spout — Moderate, 2.4 miles, 853ft elevation gain, 1.5–2hrs, circular. A short, sharp woodland walk to a genuine waterfall — Black Spout — with the elevation packed into a small distance, so you feel like you've earned the

Sauchope Links Holiday Park, Crail — A Different Kind of Easy

Sauchope Links Holiday Park sits right on the Fife Coastal Path, with the beach and rockpools more or less part of the grounds. There isn't a short, named route here in the easy category — every official trail from Sauchope runs long and point-to-point — but the coastal path itself doesn't ask you to commit to the whole thing. Head out along the sand towards Roome Bay for twenty minutes or two hours, then simply turn back when you've had enough. Sometimes the easiest walk is the one without a fixed length at all.

Ready to Lace Up?

Every one of our six Scottish holiday parks is set up so a proper walk is never more than a few minutes from the lodge door — no long drive required, no early alarm needed. Come back from a short autumn amble to a hot tub, a warm fire, and a kettle already halfway to boiling, and an easy walk starts to feel like exactly the right amount of adventure.

Wherever you end up this autumn, there's a short, proper walk waiting near every one of our parks — no big plan required, just good boots and a bit of daylight. Open AllTrails, pick your distance, and if you've already got a favourite loop near one of our parks, map it, save it, and make it yours. Come back to a warm lodge, a hot tub, and the rest of the afternoon to yourself.
