Munros in Perthshire

There are 282 munros in the Scottish Highlands. Perthshire is home to 28 mountains, and many of these can be found near Loch Tay. There are multiple hikes to pick from whether you are a beginner or an experienced hiker. We’re introducing you three of the munros near our site!

Schiehallion
Schiehallion is one of the most famous Scottish munros. It Is only a 40-minute drive away from Loch Tay Highland Lodges. The mountain stands at 3553 ft/1082.9 m. The Gaelic name translates into Fairy Hill of the Caledonians.
The mountain was formed during Ice Ages due to the erosion of ice. as The walking distance is 6.25 miles/10 km so reserve 4-6 hours for this hike. This mountain is an easy climb so it is accessible to all levels of munro baggers. The path is also well maintained.

Meall nan Tarmachan
This munro is 1044 m/3425 ft high and truly on our doorstep; less than a 10-minute drive to the car park from our site. The walking path starts at Lochan na Lairige, a little mountain Lloch at over 450 metres above sea level. Climb this munro on its own as an easy hike or continue hiking along the whole Tarmachan ridge.
The Meall nan Tarmachan hike takes approximately 5 hours to complete. The gaelic name Tarmachan means ptarmigan (a bird you might spot during your walk), whereas meall means a rounded hill.

Meall Greigh
Meall Greigh is the most eastern munro of the Lawers range. This sprawling mountain offers extensive views as there are no higher peaks through the eastern ark. It is 1001 m/ 3284 ft high and it can be walked up on its own or combined with Meall Garbh and An Stuc. This three-summit hike is 16.5km/10.25 miles long and takes between 7-8 hours to complete.
