May is National Walking Month and what better way to celebrate than setting off on two feet to explore our glorious countryside whilst getting those all-important steps in?
With temperatures rising plus two bank holidays May is the perfect month to enjoy a walking holiday; breathing in fresh air whilst embracing the sense of freedom that comes with walking.
It’s time to dust off those walking boots, the countryside is calling!

Campsie Glen Holiday Park
With our new holiday park Campsie Glen ready to welcome you, why not escape the bright lights of the city and whisk yourself away to discover some of our favourite walks near Glasgow?
Lying between the Campsie and Fintry Hills, with Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park on our doorstep, Campsie Glen is the ideal base to unleash your inner explorer.
Whether you’re with your family, partner, four-legged friend or simply seeking some time alone we have compiled our four favourite walks near Glasgow.
Cort-ma-law
If you’re holidaying with children in tow then this route in the gently rolling Campsies is the perfect place to start. Little legs can easily climb these moderate inclines which tend to be grassy all the way. The views across the hills are beautiful with plenty of space for dogs and kids to run. Park for free at Campsie Glen car park where it is possible to explore the Campsie Fells too. Fancy a few more steps? Park further down in Lennoxtown.
Conic Hill
For one of the best views across Loch Lomond, head to the summit of Conic Hill which stands tall above the village of Balmaha on the Highland Boundary Fault, separating the low lands from the highlands. We love this circular walk near Glasgow because it really gets the pulse racing, rewards with incredible views whilst offering the chance to disover Balmaha, said to be one of the prettiest villages along Loch Lomond.
Carron Valley Reservoir
If you’re after more of a stroll then head to the Carron Valley Reservoir where you can meander along the Loch Shore trail. This moderate gravelled path is approximately three miles with plenty of picnic spots dotted along the way. Surrounded by woodland, wildlife thrives here whilst the waters are one of the most scenic trout fishing spots in Scotland. Rising high above the forest is the peak of Meikle Bin, a steep climb not for the faint hearted or way-marked, it is worth the effort for the incredible views. However, the reservoir itself is a sight to behold and one of our favourite walks near Glasgow because it is so accessible. Park in the Carron Valley car park where you can stay all day for £4.
Doon Hill & Fairy Knowe
This enchanting walk will soon have you under its spell as you follow in the footsteps of faerie folk. Winding its way through native woodland, wide open countryside as well as along riverbanks, the route is full of folklore and mystery. The summit of Doon Hill is home to an ancient pine, said to be the doorway to an underground Fairy Queen’s Palace. Today there is remains an air of magic along this moderate 4.5 mile circular walk.
